INTERVIEW Interview: Sunny Deol speaks of Gadar, future plans PTI Mumbai July 29 1:00 PM IST -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sunny Deol is back with a bang. After the super success of Gadar, the industry seems to have rediscovered the actor in this macho hero who has learnt to take success and failure in his own stride. Failure of Dillagi has not deterred Sunny from directing another movie. At present Sunny is busy chalking out plans for his next home production Shaheed Bhagat Singh which will be directed by him. Here is Sunny Deol in conversation with reporter Bharti Dubey. Sunny Deol: I am working on the finalisation of the cast. Of course, Bobby will be playing Bhagat Singh in the movie and I will be Chandrashekhar Azad. The movie will go on floor after Indian is released. Bharti Dubey : It has become a tradition that Sunny-Aamir movies get released the same day and become blockbusters. So does that mean Indian will be releasing on the same day as Aamir's Dil Chahta Hai? Sunny Deol: Let me tell you that Indian is not releasing with Dil Chahta Hai. It will take its own time" Bharti Dubey: What do you think about the super success of Gadar? Did you expect it to be as big a success as Hum Aapke Hain Kaun? Sunny Deol: I always knew that the film would do well. The moment I read the script I knew it would turn out to be a good film. There is no particular reason I can pinpoint except the fact that it's a well made film. Also the partition we all know about. A love story set in those times is bound to touch a chord in every human being's heart. Bharti Dubey: Are you disappointed with the controversy surrounding the film? Sunny Deol: Honestly I'm rattled by all this. I'm sure there's nothing in the film to offend any community. Speaking for myself I know there is no gesture or dialogue of mine which will show anyone in bad light. I would never do anything to hurt anyone's religious sentiments either. Bharti Dubey: What are your plans for vijayta films? Sunny Deol: Indian is ready for release. Then I am planning to make Shaheed Bhagat Singh which I may direct. And of course, I want to make a film with my father which will be the biggest blockbuster. Bharti Dubey: One believes that you have signed a film for an obscene amount? Sunny Deol: Rubbish, I have not signed a single film after Gadar's release. So the question of taking a high price for a movie also does not arise. Bharti Dubey: Your forte has been action, but action films have been losing audience to softer movies? Sunny Deol: India is a big country with varied languages and lifestyles. Mumbai is where the film industry is based but it does not comprise the entire audience. You will be surprised to know that action movies do better business in the interiors than your soft, feel good movies. Bharti Dubey: you are one actor who prefers to stay away from media glare? Sunny Deol: I just can't handle the media. I have never been able to, all these years. I feel that just as they glorify, the media loves to being down actors when things are not looking up for them. There might be actors in the industry who care to manoeuvre the media in their favour, I don't. Bharti Dubey: Of the three - acting, direction and production, which do you prefer? Sunny Deol: Life as an actor is the best. There is no burden, you don't have to care about the fate of the movie. If you are director, you have to look into every aspect from writing, to directing to handling star tantrums. You are the captain of the ship. You have no choice but to take the responsibility good or bad...you have to bear the brunt for the failure of a movie. Bharti Dubey: Why do you think Dillagi failed? Sunny Deol: I think I made a good film. It is just that the audience did not accept it. But that has not stopped me from directing another film. As I told you earlier, I am all set to direct my second film.
